Revitalising a Flint Wall in Docking Norfolk: A Transformation Project

Updated: Nov 13

Nestled along the picturesque village on the North Norfolk coast, we recently embarked on an

exciting project in Docking that showcased both our craftsmanship and creativity. Our journey

began when holiday cottage owner, Andy Sanderson, a valued customer, who initially approached us for a bathroom refurbishment. Given that the cottage as a holiday home, time was of the essence. With the property sitting empty, every day it remained unfinished was costing him money. We understood the urgency and were committed to delivering quality work efficiently. We completed the bathroom refurbishment with outstanding results and a swift turnaround, leaving him thrilled with the outcome.

During our time at the property, Andy asked us to take a look at an exterior wall, which revealed a different story. The old render had succumbed to the harsh North Norfolk weather conditions, deteriorating to the point where it was crumbling onto the ground. The customer sought our advice on the best approach to repair this issue. While we considered re-rendering the wall, we realised that being in Norfolk, surrounded by natural flint, we had an opportunity to do something truly special.

After careful consideration, we decided to rebuild the old rendered wall using flint. This decision not only embraced the local aesthetic but also promised a more durable solution. The process began with painstakingly removing the old render, bit by bit, until we were left with a bare-faced brick wall.

With a clean slate, we set about constructing a new “skin” for the wall, incorporating framed

sections of red brickwork. Once the framework was complete, we filled the inner sides with flint, creating a stunning visual effect that added character and charm to the courtyard of the holiday cottages garden.

The end result was a beautifully restored flint wall that not only enhanced the property’s appeal but also stood as a testament to the craftsmanship and attention to detail that we pride ourselves on. But don’t take our word for it, this is what Andy had to say “We found the team to be very knowledgeable and professional in their workmanship,” says Andy. “We are more than pleased with the end result, and the wall has changed the overall look of our cottage courtyard garden. I am sure our holiday guests will enjoy it too.”

This project in Docking was not just about repairs; it was about revitalising a space and creating something that harmonised with the local landscape. We are proud to have transformed this wall and look forward to more opportunities to bring beauty and functionality to our clients’ homes.
